Obituary for Renness Katherine Nelson

Renness Katherine Nelson (Tucker) was born on March 7, 1942, in Fort Dodge Iowa and passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 18, 2018, in Auburn Washington. Renny attended Crosby High School in Belfast, Maine where she was active in athletics, playing a forward on the basketball team along with her best friend, Jeanie Drinkwater.
Renny loved sports and played softball, basketball, and volleyball into adulthood. When she felt she could no longer play, she became an umpire and spent many years umpiring adult softball games and tournaments in South King County. Renny became a master craftsman making porcelain dolls – she put in so much time attention and love making each doll, she often felt she could not part with them, and has them to this day! She was a woman that loved to create anything beautiful whether it was crocheting, sewing, embroidery, hook rugs or ceramics, she had a gift for them all. Springtime often found her in her garden, or the neighbors garden, or her daughters garden, she had a fantastic green thumb.
After running a successful daycare center for many years, Renness worked in the healthcare industry for the remainder of her career. Renny started out as office manager for Dr. Cumberbatch and later got her CNA license, specializing in labor and delivery. She loved to take care of new mothers and babies! However, she floated all over the hospital and became well known, respected and loved by all who knew her.
Renness loved Alaska, especially Nenana, and the North Pole, where she spent time growing up. During a recent trip back to Nenana she visited the old railroad depot where she and her family lived above the station in a small apartment. Time was also spend reminiscing at Coghill’s grocery and Specks bar. She sure surprised more than a few old timers when she walked in started sharing her childhood stories!
Renness, Renny, Ren, Mom, Sis, Aunt Renny, Grama, Little Grama,; she went by many names, and we will miss her well.
