Ruth a. Riske - obituary
Ruth Alice Riske passed away on May 6, 2013. She was 85.
She resided at Lindon Grove nursing home in Puyallup at the time of her death.
Ruth was born on Jan. 21, 1928 to Adolf and Agnes Machovsky, the first daughter of 10 children.
In her early years, Ruth worked at Gunnar Midgarden in Nash, ND. She did house-keeping and various other jobs. She met her husband, Bert Riske at a dance in Conway, ND and married on June 16, 1947 at St. John's Catholic Church in Grafton, ND.
Ruth was a home maker up until 1974 when she started working for ARA food services for the Boeing cafeterias. One year later, her beloved husband died at the age of 56, leaving Ruth a widow at 45 years old. She returned to working at ARA and finally retired in 1990.
After retirement Ruth became involved in many activities, one of which was her Volksmarch walking group. Every weekend they would travel to a different location and walk 3k's, 5k's and up to 10k's! Ruth was also involved in her local Parrish. She served as a volunteer for many years right here at St. Anthony's.
She loved playing cards, especially pinnacle. Bingo was also a favorite past time as well as cooking and baking. The grand kids all knew when they went to grandma Ruth's house she would most likely be cooking her famous lasagna or goulash, and then for dessert there would always be cookies in the freezer.
Ruth is survived by her children, Shirley Cormier from Centralia, James Riske & wife Barbara from puyallup, Eugene Riske & wife Belinda from Renton, Kathy Mendiola & husband Paul from Bonney Lake and Kim Gratzer & husband Tim from Kent.
Ruth has 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Ruth was preceded by death by her parents, Adolf and Agnes, husband, Bert, son-in-law, Richard Cormier, brothers , Richard and Norman and a sister, Henrietta.
Ruth was loved by so many and her infectious smile is one we all will never forget. To our mom, grandma, sister, aunt and friend, may you rest in peace.
