Martin L. Palmer, Jr was born on August 8, 1934 in Hilo Hawaii and passed away peacefully on February 1st, 2017 at the age of 82 at his daughter's home in Kent, Washington.
Martin was the oldest of six children born to Martin L. Palmer, Sr. and Lolinda (Cadinha) Palmer of Laupahoehoe on the Big Island of Hawaii. Growing up in Hawaii he gained a real appreciation and love of Hawaiian music which he passed on to his children. He also gained a real appreciation for sports and became quite an athlete. In his high school years he played basketball for the Laupahoehoe Seasiders and was consistently written up in the local papers for his high scoring games. After high school he joined the US Army and attended Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was honorably discharged after a knee injury and retuned to Hawaii. Shortly after rehabbing his knee, Martin was offered an athletic scholarship in 1956 to Seattle University where he played for the Chieftains Basketball team. Martin then met the love of his life Kathleen and they married in 1957. They lived and raised their four children in Renton. Martin enjoyed a long and proud career at the Boeing Company first as a member of the Machinists Union District Lodge 751 serving for a time as union steward and later on as a member of the Boeing Management team. He retired in 1995 with a "golden handshake" after 38 years. After the untimely death of his wife at age 60 in 1996, Martin moved to Puyallup. He enjoyed having dinner and visiting with his family, playing golf and getting together with his retired Boeing friends for lunch and fun at the casino.
Martin was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Kathleen E. (O'Donnell) Palmer, parents Martin and Lolinda Palmer Sr. of Seattle WA, brother Patrick (Wynona) Palmer of Kealakekua HI, sister and brother in-law Marlene and Frank Biesold, daughter and son-in-law Eileen and Fred Bagby of Kent WA, son Martin R.
