Leonard Albert McCaughan, aka "Mac the Birdman" and "Mac the Knife", enjoyed 91 years of life. He passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 18 just after the family finished playing a game of cards (Dorothy won as usual!). Leonard graduated from Federal Way High School in 1944. He enlisted in the Army Aircorp at the end of WWII. He came home and met the love of his life and married Dorothy in 1949. He worked his entire career in Kent, Washington. He was a butcher, a milkman for Smith Bros., owned Len's Dairy Bar on Central Ave., and retired after 26 years as a successful insurance salesman for New York Life Insurance. Leonard served two terms as a Kent City Councilman and donated countless hours to charitable events and organizations, including Lions Club and Elks.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two sons, Ron and Mike; "favorite daughter" Janie; grandchildren, Maureen, Rudolph, Jacob and Alyssa; and his great grandson, Miles; and preceded by his son, Marty.
Some of his favorite pastimes were playing golf, enjoying beach time at the cabin on Hood Canal, attending Husky football games, fishing with his buddies, many years of motor home memories with friends, family dinners which never came before a match of cribbage or two, poker nights with the guys, pinochle with Tom and Marge O'Connell, and of course, hosting many social events including Christmas Eve with family where the rotating Santa always made a staggering appearance. He spent endless hours in his shop making birdhouses, vases, cutting boards and many other items that he gifted to others or donated to auctions.
If you met Leonard even once, you remembered him for a lifetime. He left a positive impression on everyone he met. He was passionate about life, kind spirited, and always put others first. The life of the party here and no doubt, in the hereafter.
