John James 'Jack' O'Connell of Renton, Washington, passed away at the age of 85 on January 27, 2017 at Valley Medical Center, surrounded by his loving wife and three children. Born in San Francisco, California on June 23rd, 1931, to Irish immigrant parents, Jack grew up surrounded by hard working family and friends, always keeping his Irish heritage close to his heart. In High School, Jack was a solid student, participating in Golf, Basketball, and Baseball, while working as a caddy at the Olympic Club to help support his mother Kathrine and his brother Bobby and sister Kathy. Upon graduation, he accepted a job at Tidewater Oil Company as a marketing clerk, where he met the love of his life, Patricia. They started a family, and had three children, Michael (Barbara) O'Connell, John O'Connell, and Sharon (Rafael) Munoz. Soon after the birth of Michael in California, Jack was promoted with Phillips Petroleum and moved his young family to Bellevue, Washington, where John and Sharon were born, eventually settling in the Fairwood area of Renton in 1971, until his death. Jack was a loving husband, father, and a very proud grandfather of four wonderful grandsons, Kenny, Cameron, Logan, and Ryland. Jack instilled his Irish heritage into his family throughout his life, never missing an opportunity to greet a stranger with a firm handshake, welcoming embrace, and a hearty "I'm Jack O'Connell from Seattle, I'm an Irishman, and I'm glad to know you!" Jack was a member of St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church in Renton for 45 years, where a funeral mass is planned for Monday, February 13th, at 11:00 AM, followed by a graveside burial at Tahoma National Cemetery with Military Honors beginning at 2:30 PM. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Marlatt Funeral Home in Kent, WA. The family requests that all memorial donations be made in Jacks honor to your favorite charity.
