Edward Donald Frazier (”Don”) was born on May 15, 1925 in Bellingham, Washington, and was the youngest of seven children. He grew up in Bellingham and attended schools there until he joined the Navy in 1942 at the age of 17. While his patriotism called him to service at a young age, he also recognized the importance of education, and proudly received his high school diploma from Bellingham High School through a program offered by the Navy during World War II. After the war, Don studied at Gonzaga University. His Navy service included a lengthy tour of duty in the South Pacific, and a trip home on the Navy hospital ship USS Comfort.
At the age of 15 he attended a summer Bible camp in Ferndale where he met a young woman named Lois Ross. This young woman later became his wife of 55 years until her passing in 2002. In 1946, Don and Lois were married at the Mukilteo Presbyterian Church. The service was conducted by Don’s Father, Reverend John Frazier and Lois’s Uncle, Reverend Everett Montgomery. The young couple purchased a home in Everett in 1950, and their first child, Gregory, was born in 1951. Their second son, Bradley, followed three years later in 1954. In 1955, Don and Lois moved to Spokane, where they resided for the next nine years. In 1958 they were blessed with the birth of twin girls, Lisa and Lori.
The following years involved a number of job-related transfers that took the family to Bellevue, WA, Walnut Creek, CA, Houston, TX and ultimately back to Lois’s childhood home in Mukilteo, WA which had remained in the family since 1905. Don lived in Everett after Lois’s passing until 2013, and then moved to Renton, WA to be closer to his daughters and their families.
Don and Lois’s long and loving marriage provided a perfect template for their four children to follow, and Don was particularly proud that each of his children married once, and stayed that way to the present day. Don and Lois were also blessed with five grandchildren and Don had the joy of being “Grandpa Frazier” to four great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
Don had a long career in sales and marketing, most of which was spent at NL Industries. Over his career he earned a strong reputation for integrity and fairness. He built strong relationships with those he worked with, especially the many young individuals he hired and mentored. He maintained life-long friendships with many of his work colleagues until his passing.
Don passed away on August 20, 2017 at the age of 92. He is remembered as a loving husband, a devoted father, grandpa and great-grandpa, and a reliable and faithful friend. His integrity, good nature, kindness, and humor made lasting impressions on all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
A service celebrating Don’s life will be held Saturday, October 7th at 11:00 am at New Hope Presbyterian Church, 19800 108th Ave SE, Kent WA. Contributions in Don’s memory may be sent to Our Daily Bread Ministries, PO Box 2222, Grand Rapids, MI 49501.
