Obituary for Alfred M Gladen

Alfred M. Gladen, age 79, passed away quietly in his sleep on Monday, March 12, 2018 at Tacoma General Hospital. He had been suffering from congestive heart failure and was there to undergo treatment.
Al was born in Laporte Minnesota, one of seven children, to Herman Silas Gladen and Virginia Ella Hansen. He married Theresa Kubat in 1965. Their first son, Stephen, was born in Minnesota. They later moved to Ohio where their other 3 sons, Lee, Jeffrey, and Matthew were born. They then moved Washington State in 1979, and have been living in Covington, WA for the last 38 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Knute. He is survived by his wife Theresa (Kubat), his children Stephen (Vera), Lee (Samantha), Jeffrey (Kristi) and Matthew (Tayla), and his grandchildren Zane, Matthew, Andrew and Joscelyn. He is also survived by his brothers Ronald, David, Herbert, and Richard, his sister Coral, and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Al graduated from Laporte Public School and earned his B.E.E. degree at the University of Minnesota. He went on to work at Accuray in Columbus, Ohio, and then Machinists, Inc. after the move to Washington State. He then started his own consulting business, which he ran for several years until he retired. He loved riding and repairing motorcycles, reading, playing the guitar, and the company of good friends.
Al touched many, many lives, and will be remembered as the best of company, holding the floor at every gathering. He was always ready with a helping hand or a good story. His sharp wit and keen business sense was balanced by a warm heart and a wonderful sense of humor. You always knew attending a Gladen party would be filled with happy people, good conversation, and music into the small hours.
A Funeral service will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church (25810 156th Avenue S.E.,
Covington, WA 98042) on Friday, April 6 at 11AM, followed immediately after by a Luncheon, and then interment at Hillcrest Burial Park (1005 Reiten Rd, Kent, WA 98030)

Remembrances and flowers may be sent to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church the day of the service.
